Our History

Cafe Polo has been part of the Miramar community since 2007, built on a passion for great food, warm hospitality, and bringing people together.

The cafe was originally established by Valentina Dias and David Thurlow, whose vision transformed the former Edwards Jones Cafe into the Cafe Polo that locals know and love today. David’s commitment to quality, seasonal cooking and locally sourced ingredients laid the foundations of the kitchen, while Valentina helped establish Polo as a welcoming neighbourhood destination. Both remain valued friends of the Polo family, with Valentina continuing to contribute to Miramar’s hospitality scene at the Roxy.

In 2013, long-time Sous Chef Adrian Green took over as Head Chef, continuing the philosophy that has always been at the heart of Polo. Lisa Turnbull joined the team in 2014 as Head Baker, bringing creativity and craftsmanship to our ever-changing cabinet and becoming well known for her baking. In 2018, Briar Thomson returned to Cafe Polo to lead our front-of-house team, completing the ownership trio.

Today, Adrian, Lisa and Briar are proud to continue the traditions that have made Cafe Polo a local favourite, while adding plenty of new ideas of our own. From our seasonal brunch menus and ever-changing weekly specials to our famous Saturday donuts and special events throughout the year, we’re always looking for new ways to surprise and delight our guests.

Whether you’re a long-time local or visiting Miramar for the first time, we look forward to welcoming you to Cafe Polo.
